Installation & Setup
You need your own WordPress website with administrator access. Your MCFP account manages purchase, download, and license; you then create the forms in WordPress.
Are you setting up a new WordPress website just for forms? Here you find our simple theme with illustrated setup.
The following images are real screenshots of our test installation with sample data (captures from setup and current development status). Names, license keys and local addresses are for illustration only. Your website address and some WordPress terms may differ. Click an image to open it large.
Update MCFP directly in WordPress
- Check under Forms → License, whether your license key is saved and valid.
- Open Dashboard → Updates and click if needed on Check again.
- Is a new MCFP version available? Select it there or go to Plugins → Installed Plugins → My Custom Form Plugin → Update now.
- Wait for the success message. Then check a form. Your saved forms and settings remain intact; secure your website against updates.
One-time entry: Versions before 1.5.0 do not yet have an update client. Please download the current ZIP once from your MCFP account and install it under Plugins → Add New Plugin → Upload Plugin. Confirm “Replace installed plugin with uploaded plugin.” Do not delete the existing plugin beforehand. Afterwards, direct updates will be available. You can optionally enable automatic updates yourself in WordPress.
“Show details” in the plugin list opens description, setup, FAQ, and version notes. The public demo is updated centrally; plugin installations are blocked there.
Preparation (1 minute)
- • WordPress is installed
- • Admin access to the WordPress backend is available
- • Open your MCFP dashboard and download the plugin ZIP there. Do not unzip the ZIP.
- • You have access to your account at mycustomform.com/dashboard
- • Copy the license key from the same dashboard. If the license is still missing after purchase, wait for the payment confirmation and reload the page.
Install plugin
- Open WordPress Backend
- Plugins → Add Plugin → Upload Plugin (in older WordPress versions, “Add Plugin” is still called “Install”) open
- Select the MCFP ZIP
- On Install now click
- Then to Enable click
Activate License
- Log in at https://mycustomform.com/dashboard .
- Copy the desired license key from your dashboard there.
- In the WordPress backend, open the menu item Forms → License.
- Enter the license key into the field.
- Click Save.
- Then click Activate for this website.
- Open your account again at mycustomform.com/dashboard .
- Search there for the affected license key.
- Click on the currently active domain Unlink domain.
- Switch back to the WordPress backend of the new website and perform the activation there again.
Without an active license, features and package scope are not fully available.
Use signature as image
In the signature field, your customer can still draw or choose “Upload signature as image.” Supported formats are PNG, JPG, and WebP up to 5 MB. The image appears in the signature field and is saved as well as included in the PDF. Use “Clear” to replace the signature. A signature image is not a qualified electronic signature.
Create or adjust template
Open Forms → Professional Templates. First click “Update available professional groups,” select the desired groups, then “Save selection and load templates.” You can change the selection anytime. Your package determines the released templates. Originals come from the portal; reliable working copies remain on your website. Custom templates and ongoing processes remain.
- In the WordPress backend, open the menu item Forms → Templates.
-
Choose your entry point:
- on a system template at Copy as own template click and then edit the copy
- with + New template start empty
- or on an existing template on Edit click
- Select in the Form Studio select a field type on the left. Then click the field in the center and edit its label and settings on the right. Drag fields by the dotted handle to the desired position or use the arrow buttons. Via Move to step assign a field to another step. With Undo you can undo the last change.
- Use the during editing Preview link, to test the template directly in the frontend.
-
Check the template step by step in the preview:
- are all fields displayed correctly?
- are the steps logically structured?
- do required fields, uploads, and dependencies work as desired?
- If everything fits, the template save.
- Then go back to the Template overview.
- Copy the Form link of the desired template.
-
You can then use this frontend link directly, for example:
- link on a page or button
- store in the WordPress menu
- send to customer by email
- pass on in internal processes or templates
Optional: embed form directly into an existing page
- Open in the template overview under the frontend link Embed on page (shortcode).
- Click into the code field and copy the fully highlighted shortcode.
- Open in WordPress Pages → Edit. Add a Shortcode block added.
- Paste the copied code unchanged. It looks like this:
[mcfp_form template="YOUR_TEMPLATE_ID"]. Use the real code from your template, not this placeholder. - Save the page and open its preview. Test the form start and all steps. Multiple shortcode blocks work independently.
Always use a template. A personal continuation link belongs to exactly one process and must not be embedded as a public form.
Link and test form
- Copy under Forms → Templates the Form link.
- Open your WordPress page in the editor and insert a Buttons block.
- Label the button, for example, with "Report Damage" and insert the copied link as the target.
- Refresh the page and open it in a private browser window.
- Click the button, fill out the form with sample data, and submit it.
- Check under Forms the new entry and open the PDF. Also check your email inbox and, if necessary, the spam folder.
No shortcode is needed for this workflow. Use the template link for new processes; personal links of pre-filled forms belong only to the respective process.
Important Settings
- • Under Forms → Settings → General the Admin form recipient check and save.
- • For emails, a working mail delivery is important, ideally via SMTP.
- • Check if your form is correctly saved and embedded
- • Test PDF generation and upload functions on your live server
- • After license activation, check if your booked package scope is correctly unlocked
Typical problems
→ First check if the license key was correctly entered and saved.
→ Then check in the dashboard if the license might still be active on another domain.
→ Open your dashboard at mycustomform.com and click on the active domain Unlink domain.
→ Then reactivate on the new domain.
→ First check the WordPress permalinks.
→ In WordPress go to Settings → Permalinks and just click on Save (without changing anything).
→ Then reload the frontend link.
→ Check if the correct template was used.
→ Clear cache (browser + possibly caching plugin).
→ Check mail sending or SMTP configuration of the WordPress site.
→ Recommendation: use an SMTP plugin (e.g. WP Mail SMTP).
→ Check server configuration (especially write permissions / PHP limits).
→ Open the saved process under Forms and try the PDF download again. If the error persists, contact support with the case number.
Not sure what to do next?
First use FAQ and instructions. If the problem persists, please use the support form.
Customize form design
Open in WordPress Forms → Design. Here you set colors, fonts, buttons, rounding, as well as inner and outer spacing for all your forms.
- Choose colors and a locally available font. The preview shows changes immediately.
- Check the mobile preview and text contrast notice. Adjust width and spacing if necessary with the sliders.
- Click Save design and reopen a form. Only saving makes the changes public.
Load default values restores the defaults in the editor. Then save to apply them. Authorized administrators can add additional form-specific rules under “Custom CSS”. Mail, PDF, and logo settings remain in their usual place.
